it's an honor
to be your photographer
Being invited into someone's life to document their story is something I never take lightly. These photographs are more than images to me - I see them as pieces of a life being lived, relationships being cherished, and moments that will never happen in quite the same way again. When you look back at them years from now, I want your heart to remember how it felt.
BEFORE YOUR SESSION
inquiry, contract + deposit
The first step to preparing for your session is to complete the booking process! Submit an inquiry by sending me a message through the "Contact" tab of this website. After consultation, I will email your contract to be digitally signed and the link to submit your deposit (this reserves your requested date and time).
fill KB in on the details - questionnaire
Prior to your session, you will also receive a questionnaire to help us best plan for your session. I want to hear all about your thoughts and ideas for your session! It's also really helpful to know some details about the people being photographed. The more info, the better our connection and my ability to document your personalities most accurately. For example, if you and your significant other do not like PDA, you're welcome to share that with me to avoid me suggesting any kissing poses.
Planning your outfit(s)
I know that picking out the “perfect” outfit(s) for your session can feel overwhelming. I've got your back! This is not a set of rules and none of these suggestions are a “have to.” The most important thing to me is that you feel like you!
1. Pinterest boards and trends have their places, but that doesn’t have to be the basis for your look. Keeping up with trends can be so exhausting. These photos are for YOU to enjoy and hold dear - not everyone else. Your neighbor doesn't approve of the outfit you pick for pictures? Big whoop. Take a breath and release yourself of the pressure.
2. Doublecheck your closet before you go shopping - you might not even need to buy anything new!
3. For couples/families, I suggest complimentary colors rather than matchy matchy. I personally tend to lean toward neutral, natural tones for pictures, but patterns/prints and bold colors can be just as beautiful!
4. There's no dress code for a session with me! A workin' in the garden outfit all the way to your favorite formal attire are welcome! We meemaw and yeehaw, girlfriend!
5. Q's to ask yourself: Do I feel like my best self in it? Does it showcase my personality? Does it compliment the things I love the most about myself? Does it avoid accentuating the things I don't love the most about myself? Is it comfortable? Can I move around in it without worry? Does it work with the location? Does it work with the season?
6. I recommend especially considering the location of your session when picking out your shoes.
7. Don't be like me and my sis and wait until the day-of to decide what you're wearing. Unnecessary stress haha
8. You're welcome to send your outfit ideas to me! As my mama would tell you, be warned because I will give you my lovingly honest opinion haha
9. I'm more than glad to incorporate any accessories or props: hat, jacket, heirloom, skateboard, truck, cozy blanket, etc.
10. Put all keys, cell phones, & other things you might stuff in your pockets in a bag to keep with you so that they don’t end up in your pictures.
what if the weather is bad?
We'll keep an eye on the weather and make a decision the day-of your session since bama weather is so unpredictable. If it looks like it will be raining during the time of the session, we can reschedule for another day. My goal is to give you the best photos possible and sometimes that means working around the weather. Doing a fun or romantic in-the-rain session could also be an option!
Must-have shots
Prior to session day, please be sure to let me know if there are any specific photos that are most important for us to capture. I want to be sure to plan your session with those pictures as our top priority. You are also welcome to send me any inspo pictures or poses from Pinterest!
DURING YOUR SESSION
KB is here to help
I'm here to help you feel comfortable, seen, and cared for. Whether that means offering gentle guidance, bringing a calm presence, or simply making space for genuine moments to unfold, my goal is to create an experience that feels natural and meaningful from beginning to end.
What if I feel awkward in front of a camera
It's totally normal to feel this way! Most of us weren’t taught how to be authentic in front of a camera, but to “smile right”, “stand still”, and “look happy". My approach to photography doesn't require you to change anything about who you are - we embrace any awkward feelings and find balance to just be ourselves. It’s my job to help you feel safe enough to let your guard down and to guide you when needed, but leave plenty of room for you to be genuinely you.
EMPTY YOUR POCKETS
Put all keys, cell phones, & other things you might stuff in your pockets in a bag to keep with you so that they don’t end up in your pictures.
tips for Children (and cranky husbands)
I recommend that children come hydrated and with moderately full bellies. Adults too, honestly. haha Not too stuffed that we're bloated and tired, but no one likes having their picture taken when they're hangry. Always a good idea to have snacks on hand and bribe with an after-session treat for participation (P.S. this works just as well for husbands, too).
I have an acne flair-up; Spilt something on my outfit on the way to session; Etc.
I offer moderate skin smoothing and blemish removal that looks natural. It is not required if you prefer to opt-out of any retouch. I do not regularly offer much retouch on babies/children (unless requested for special circumstances) - they're perfect just the way they are!
I am typically able to remove a stain upon request! I've got your back.
AFTER YOUR SESSION
FOLLOW kb ON SOCIALS
I would love to keep in touch and for you to be able to see any deals I post in the future! Give my professional and personal accounts a follow on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok!
When will our gallery be ready?
For most sessions, you will receive your full gallery within three weeks. I often deliver galleries sooner, but it varies based on my workload and if your session is in a busy season.
How many pictures will we get?
Each session offers a specific, guaranteed number of photos (see investment page), but you may receive a few more than the minimum at no charge. Each image is carefully selected to offer you the highest quality gallery that aligns with my brand and tells your authentic story.
How do we access our pictures?
All session includes a digital gallery with Pixieset that is delivered to your email with instructions for proper digital download. Please do not screenshot from the gallery as it will not give you the high quality image as provided through proper downloading. Flash drives are available to be added to your package for $25.
Where should I print our pictures?
Mpix is a great professional printing website that offers high quality and accurate color prints. Please note that stores like Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc. do not have color-accurate, high-quality images.
Can I post the pictures on social media?
Yes, absolutely! I love when people share their images online with friends and family! I kindly ask anyone posting the photos to give me photo credit/tag my photography page on whichever platform you are using. Please do not apply any filters or crops to alter the images in any way.
